AMERICAN RED WOLF ZOO SIGNAGE
The Texas Zoo
Riverside Park- Victoria, Texas
THE PROBLEM
Telling their story
The zoo is severely lacking in signage in the Red wolf area. Hosting two red wolves at this facility is HUGE, as the wolves are critically endangered with only around 14 left in the wild in North Carolina!
Walking up to the exhibit, no one would know how endangered the species was, and no one would know their importance at the zoo! Signage needed to happen.

THE CONCEPT
Humans are visual people. I knew instantly a map would be crucial to show just how endangered the species was. I chose to divide up the information into smaller sections to keep the interest of the visitors with key information.

DISPLAY
PLAN
All of the zoo signage was your basic sign drilled straight into a rail or wall. I created a wooden display that would stand out from the exhibit and demand attention from passing guests. The natural wood kept the sign coherent with its environment.

THE SIGNAGE
Standing out
A color palette of turquoise, burnt sienna and browns was inspired by south Texas and the coat of the red wolf. The red created a stark contrast against the vibrant green foliage in the exhibit!
CAN YOU SEE ME?
Everyone's favorite was the "Can you see me" sign. As a part of the Species Survival Program, the wolves are required to be kept in an environment that simulates the wild. A common complaint of guests was that the exhibit appeared overgrown and unkept. No more complaints!

RED WOLF CAST REVEAL
Creating awareness for the American Red Wolf
The amazing cast of wildlife artist Dale Weiler's alabaster sculpture Just Settling In was revealed at The Texas Zoo by Dale and his wife Loti to promote red wolf conservation and education.
Paint for a Cause raised money for the care of the zoo's red wolves Carmen and Spirit, with part of the proceeds going towards the Weiler Woods for Wildlife foundation.
